Focal makes no compromises
7 April 2013
Summary: I have been a fan of Focal speakers for many years. I veered away from this brand to try some other components and was left very disappointed. I decided to come back, but was on a limited budget. I decided to go with these as you can bi-amp them. I highly recommend purchasing these with a 4 channel amp. With these speakers bi-amped, they match the quality of their higher end polykevlar line.
Summary: Awesome !!! These are without a doubt the best car speakers I ever heard. (I am driving them with 100 Watts RMS each). I was pleasantly surprised by the clarity and fidelity. The tweeters are crisp and clean and produce beautiful highs. I listen to many different genres of music: rock, classical, jazz, bolero, salsa, merengue, and raggaeton; no matter what I played or how loud I played them, these speakers showed no distortion whatsoever and passed with flying colors.
Summary: These speakers are definitely focal's "sweet spot" between performance and price. I found the lower end components to sound incredibly harsh compared to these. And while the higher end speakers definitely give you more bass, I thought their highs sounded muddier. Therefore, if you have a sub, the PS165s are the components to get. These speakers make all of my muzak sound as if it's live on stage in front of me.
Pros: adjustable tweeter level to reduce brightness if necessary wide and enveloping soundstage accurate mid-bass blends well with a tight and punchy sub.
Summary: I put these component speakers in my infiniti G-35. It was a little tricky to put them in, but with the master sheet from Crutchfield and some YouTube videos I figured it out. The fit was pretty dang good and it looks really clean. I was going from the stock Bose system, so didn't expect too much improvement. I also installed the RF Power T400-4 to run them. I am blown away!! Best car speakers I've ever had. Kinda wonder what the K2's and Utopias sound like!
Pros: They look really good, sound great, were affordable compared to other focals.
Summary: Got these for Black Friday weekend deal. Replaced Kenwood 5x7s had to make a bracket but after all installed its like a new system. Sound is amazing, clear and loud! Run off head unit or amp you wont find a bettet set! I have a Kenwood head unit, these up front, kenwood 5x7 rear, 2 kenwood 12s, rf prime 500.1, kenwood 4 channel amp, 2 farad cap all in a convertible sound is amazing even with top down at 75mph!
Pros: Focal makes some of the best speakers Clear highs Nice mids and bass
Cons: Don't like the twin crossover why not make it one Also price is high but worth it
Summary: I've had these in my WRX for a couple of months powered by a Kenwood head unit. They sound better than stock speakers but sound a little limited. I just recently powered them up with a 4 channel amp @100w x 4 (bi-amp'd them). What a difference that made! All my music sounds 200% better than before. I've had many brands of components in the past 15 years, at all price ranges and none of them compare to Focal. Money truly well spent.
Pros: Bi-amp capable, selectable crossover points and attenuation. Attention to musical detail.
Cons: Weird tweeter mounting options, user manual not very useful. Requires high powered amp to wake them up (not really a con).
Summary: These are the cleanest sounding speakers I have ever heard. I built custom mounts out of MDF so I could fit these in my car and it was well worth the effort. I have them amplified by an Alpine F4. Low volume or high volume doesn't matter, they are just simply an outstanding speaker. I've tried many brands and hands down these are the best. You get what you pay for.
