Summary: I purchased a pair of these and a pair of the Apline 6.5" to replace some cheap Boss Audio that I bought 2 years ago, one of which one died. There is a world of difference in terms of sound quality and bass when installing these. I run these straight off a Kenwood KMR-700 head unit and they sound great. No need for an amp in my case and opinion. The 7" is a much better quality speaker than the 6" which seemed a bit small.
Summary: So, like others, I picked up these speakers after reading the few, mostly positive reviews on various sites. I compared these with the 6.5" version, the JL MX650, the Infinitys and the other popular brands of boat speakers and ultimately decided on these for a couple of reasons. They were slightly larger than the 6.5" standards, which I thought would produce more bass off my stock Sony CDX-H910UI deck.
Summary: I bought a pair of these a year ago for my boat. These speakers made me th DJ of party cove lol. My system will over sound anyone else's on the water. Cannot believe the sound and how loud they can get.
Pros: Sound quality at high volume Ability to hear at a distance clear ( off the boat and in the water many boats away) Cost
Summary: Best bang for your buck in my opinion. Similar JL speakers that I was looking at were three times as much money. I've had pioneer, Kenwood, and kicker speakers and these are by far the best. Also, make sure to go for the 7" over the 6.5". I have both in my boat and the 7" sound noticably better.
Summary: I got these speakers after doing a lot of research on marine speakers. The Alpines were rated as the best sound for the price. I installed them on Sat and took out the boat thinking these would be very loud.I was extremely disappointed. They are no better then the factory speakers I had previously. They were in-expensive and I just thought they were going to be better. This review is no reflection on the seller. They were great.I would give them a "c" grade at best!
