There is room for improvement

  • Summary: The stereo was to replace my 10 year old Sony single din stereo. Primary reason for upgrade: front USB input, iPod control and Bluetooth streaming - don't care about phone usage but want to be able to stream radio from the phone over Bluetooth. It fits nicely but you really do need factory mounting brackets or aftermarket brackets for 2 din stereos. What Crutchfield supplies is only good for single din.
  • Pros: *It appears to be very solid stereo (I only used it for a week so far) but it feels right. *Easy to install and sound quality is at least as good as the one I had before. It is priced lower than most of the other 2 din stereos and if it lasts as long as my previous Sony 10+ years, I'll be happy *It's got tons of functions and I haven't tried all of them yet.
  • Cons: Getting to functions is not very easy - often, you have to go through a number of menus before getting to where you need to be - Sony should have done more dedicated buttons for audio controls at least The one line display is ridiculous! 3/4 of display is used for static mostly empty fields and all the information is provided on one line - second from the bottom The display is absolutely "blind" when it's sunny outside. You can't see the clock or any of the informatio...

Less than I expected.

  • Summary: I chose the Sony WX-GT90BT to replace the factory radio in my 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee after a lot of careful research. So far I am only moderately satisfied and probably should done more research. This radio has plenty of functions that just overload the user. Menus are extensive and not especially intuitive. Installation was a nightmare. I was sent the wrong instructions, such as they are, leading to more confusion.
  • Pros: Highly featured, typical Sony fit and finish (meaning excellent), nice looking unit overall and plenty of features.
  • Cons: Does not align with the slight tumble home of the dash. Menues are not intuitive, some terms and acronyms are confusing.

Perfect replacement

  • Summary: I installed this stereo on my 2004 Toyota Corolla LE. Since the car just turned 10 years old recently with only 71,172 miles, I decided that I should give my first car an upgrade after having it for 10 years. Overall quality of the stereo is excellent. Feature is great but the ease of use on the bluetooth for the phone is very annoying that is why I gave it 3 stars.I am use to my wireless bluetooth speaker that when I press the call button it will connect to the phone...
  • Pros: Good sound quality and the value is excellent. Very easy to install.
  • Cons: Not so great with the Bluetooth phone ease of use. Very distracting when dialing while driving.

Ok, but has issues

John S, Crutchfield

  • Summary: I installed this unit in a 2008 Scion XB replacing the supposedly "premium" Pioneer head unit that came as OEM. The install was straightforward using kit fr Crutchfield. At first I was very impressed with the major improvement in sound from my system. This Sony unit blew away the OEM Pioneer and was a match better match for my upgraded speakers, amp, and sub.
  • Pros: Great sound, Display color customizability, price (when on sale)
  • Cons: Bluetooth sound quality, iPod functionality, complicated menu, meaningless EQ setting names, and difficulty changing/setting EQ while driving. Preset EQ settings only good for people who do not care to understand what they mean and/or are not critical about sound

Great sound but screen unreadable in daylight

Jose, Crutchfield
21 September 2013
  • Summary: I wish I could give this receiver a better rating but I can't . I have a 2005 Scion Xb whose OEM Pioneer receiver died. This receiver was the closes to the OEM look I could find- really can't tell its aftermarket once installed. Installation glitches: the screws provided with this receiver are very shallow. When I connected the factory brackets to the adapter brackets together...the screws were too shallow to reach the receiver.
  • Pros: Produces excellent sound even with the factory speakers. Everything on this receiver is tweakable. Its a very good looking receiver almost OEM in fit, finish, looks.
  • Cons: Unreadable screen in daylight, too much glare from very shiny screen. Overly complex system of menus and adjustments, not intuitive, high learning curve to use even for a techy guy like me.

  • Summary: During the daylight hours the main display is extremely difficult to read, even with the dimmer settings off. I have tried different colors but we have no idea which station we are tuning to.
  • Pros: Easy to install, great sound, great features.
  • Cons: Display. Bad enough I have to return it.
