Epic Fail

Neal G, Crutchfield
23 October 2013
  • Summary: Installed on a Harley road glide. After driving through one small rain, the buttons on the front of the unit quit working. It would power up then immediately shut itself off. Very disappointed in Sony. Others I have spoken to have had similar results with Sony marine systems.
  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Not waterproof whatsoever!

  • Summary: I brought this unit to replace the old Pioneer head unit in my boat,The install was straight forward including the wired remote installed at the same time. now the i pod wont move around on the dash as it sits safely inside the unit and unlike CD's wont skip when you hit a bit of rough water.

Sony DSX-MS60

  • Summary: The sound from this unit is fantastic...when it works. I have this model installed on my 2012 Harley and within a few days the iPod interface began opperating intermitantly. The cause was diagnosed to an old iPod so I upgraded to a new one. This solved the problem and once again the system worked flawlessly, well until the display began to flicker. Now 4 months old it has completely stopped working.
  • Pros: iPod shuttle
  • Cons: Controls are complex, too small to used while moving, the detachable faceplate is too fragile with poor connections to the headunit for any use other than inside a car

Sony DSX-MS60

27 July 2012
  • Summary: My Pontoon boat had a Jensen receiver installed when I bought it. After several outings the radio would power off for no reason and then come back on and continue to do this the rest of the day. I finally got fed up and started researching Marine radio's. I decided on the Sony after reading the reviews. I could not believe the difference just a radio could make.
  • Pros: Looks, i-pod/i-phone docking, sound, ease of operation.
  • Cons: None

Very nice radio

  • Summary: I bought this for my 2006 Harley Street Glide. It is my third radio but first marine grade so I hope it holds up to the environment. I have it playing through two sets of Polk speakers 6 1/2 & 5 1/4") and a 4 channel Alpine amp 50wt rms and it sounds really good. Nice and clean. Display is really nice nd I actually like the media player over a CD that would skip on bumps in the road.

  • Summary: Afer reading several reviews, I bought this unit to replace the existing Sony unit in my 2000 Cobalt. It took 20 minutes to remove the exisitng unit and install this one. The stereo also fit with the existing wire harness. Not only do my 2 additional control units work, driver seat and swim platform, I now have a remote as well. Charges Iphone as well! Perfect replacement unit!!

Not a good unit for Boat application

Dave G., Crutchfield
2 July 2012
  • Summary: This unit doesn't perform well in a boat. Crutchfield was awesome in replacing my 1st one - it would just suddenly power down. Now, in just my 2nd boating season the replacement will lose connection with the contacts on the faceplate. I'll have to press on the faceplate just to lower the volume or change anything. I guess the vibration is just too much but HELLO.... this is a Marine radio. I'm on hold with Crutchfield as I type to see what they will be willing to do.
