  • Summary: Superior sound quality at a great price. lots of ways to play music besides cd. Led colors a cool and in plenty, the lights can even be different between buttons and screen. sooo clear and crisp sound additon to my system. Bluetooth works great but hands free mic has some feedback. Still fine, most car mics are like this tho.

Awesome sound, lousy display, no pause button, weak radio reception

Gooch, Amazon
27 September 2013
  • Summary: Excellent sound quality, great EQ and other sound-adjustment options. The display is hard to see during the day and there is no pause button, which I knew before I bought the unit, but I bought it anyway for the sound quality which is unbeatable at this price. Two workarounds for the lack of a pause button. Use the included remote or just shut the unit off when you want to pause.

Verified Pros and Cons

  • Summary: Replaced Premier DEH-P860MP after only 10 years of continuous operation the OEL Display began to die :( Onto the DEH-80PRS. The unit uses much cheaper low quality less durable materials smaller wires screws grounds etc. than all of my previous Pioneer units. The weakest of materials make up the detachable non-motorized faceplate. The Master Control knob literally popped off brushing against an rca cable during installation, but snapped neatly back into place. Pros 1.

Sweet.

  • Summary: For this price I'm really impressed. The bluetooth functionality with the iphone 5 lacks controls, but hopefully they'll send out an update. The sound quality is amazing, and the auto setup is fantastic. Doesn't get things perfect, but very close - only required minor tweaking to get it right where I want it. USB controls leave a lot to be desired. When playing a track you cannot go back into the folder that it is located in.

Audiophile's Last Hope...

Slick, Amazon
23 May 2013
  • Summary: Purchased the DEH-80PRS to replace my old school Alpine CDA-9855. Have only owned high end Alpine units (9886, 117, 9885), but like most other companies, the quality and audio controls on recent models is nearly non-existent. I run a JL Audio HD900/5 powering a set of Hertz HSK165HSK component speakers with no external crossovers, so I needed something with an active crossover, and a wide array of audio adjustments.

Excellent

  • Summary: I tried several decks before this one. The learning curve and build quality were not nearly an issue for me as some of the reviews I read before buying. The versatility is exactly what I was looking for; most things can be customized. I'll never go back to anything less than a 16 band EQ after this, either.
  • Pros: SOUND quality, tweakability, 16 band EQ, clean look
  • Cons: Not so much a con- but I tried the auto TA and EQ for my vehicle, but ended up going with all of my own settings anyway. Understanding so much of settings are based on personal sound preferences. It did help me get acquainted faster with the product.

Should have purchased this first

  • Summary: Well a funny thing happened on my way to buy a new head unit for my 2003 Toyota Tundra. While reading reviews and comparing units I solicited the crutchfield rep to help me decide and this unit never came up... long story short I bought the Kenwood Excelon x995 and hated it! I honestly did not know that you had to drop a little more coin for something to sound half way decent. So what I like better about the Pioneer is absolutely almost everything.
  • Pros: Super easy set up. TA/EQ set up a breeze with the mic. My speakers are the Polk DB651s and they sounded positively rich and powerful with the 80PRS even at low volumes. I like the volume increments as this unit sounds so good you can fine tune the volume depending on what you're listening to and your mood. Pandora sounds great. CD's sound awesome. Radio sounds pretty darn good. Sounds great right out of the box with minimal fussing around. A lot of options for customi...
  • Cons: It is a little plasticky. But from other models that I've seen It's not too bad. Radio should let you scroll through all stations without sub bands, too frustrating.
