Summary: i use the sound retriever on mode 2 and i can tell the difference. this was on of the reason i purchased pioneer. also, the menu if fairly simple once you get used to it. however, i don't like how it organize music... no folder name display for mp3s. I would buy it again. also, important... the amazon description is wrong. it only has two 2 volt RCA outputs and not three 4 volt RCA outputs like the description says.
Summary: I really like this radio. I upgraded from an older aftermarket CD player (also a Pioneer) for my 2000 Accord. This radio has all the main features you might want. USB? Check. Aux in for an MP3 player? Check. HD Radio? Check. Presets galore? Check. I'll admit I thought HD radio was a gimmick. After listening to it for some time now, I am a believer. The sound quality is fantastic. No static. Sound is rich and full.
Summary: I've been using Pioneer for 15 years now and this product is good for the price. I bought it mainly to pair with my ipod touch in my minivan. I enjoy having HD radio because the station shows what the song is and artist. There is some learning curve finding menus with the command knob, but not a chore. I like that the head unit enhances the compressed files on my ipod for a better sound. The only con is controlling the ipod through the stereo.
