Summary: As many here have mentioned, the subsequent software updates have fixed many issues, but the unit is still iffy. If you need to replace an old car stereo with something newer and cooler, this may be it, depending on your needs and budget. Let's start with the bad. There are glitches like any other Android piece of hardware for sure: programs can crash, some of the network settings left me in the dark, and it takes a little while to start up (30 seconds).
Summary: It's a little bit cheaper than they make the product out to be... The volume dial was the weakest... It's super cheap plastic and just wasn't to the quality that I was expecting... As for the other grief that some people have ranted about - - Yes it takes about 2 minutes to boot up - Installation instructions are nonexistent and can't be found online (good luck figuring out the wire colors without previous radio knowledge) - Scrolling through radio stations is AWFUL -...
Summary: Received a defective unit. Initially, the unit worked; however, after about a week, the unit died. Although it was replaced. Had planned on traveling and was unable to use the unit. Still have some problems, unit completely powers down, recycles, and begins again. Would cost too much to remove unit and re-install.
Summary: Unit works most of the time, but every now and then it just decides not to work. Sometimes I have to downgrade the software and then upgrade it back to the current version. The voice control works well, and the included bluetooth features work very well also. It just likes to randomly reboot itself while working. Very frustrating.....
Summary: I had high hopes for this radio, but it failed to deliver in several areas (see cons below). It is still a cool device and is much better than what I had. Hopefully the issues can be resolved through software updates. For now I would only recommend the device for early adopters.
Pros: Easy to install, tons of connectivity options for your devices and Internet, can side load most Android apps
Cons: Poor customer support, device shipped with buggy software even after the 2.0.1 update, SD card difficult to remove (need needle nose pliers), no USB support for video playback, needs a physical volume control, crashes periodically and makes a very loud pop when it hard reboots, the iGo navigation is not the full version so it is limited in functionality, long boot time, does not remember the last audio source in use before power down, and there is an RDS issue that ca...
Summary: Super cool, minus the interface and minor glitches in usage. They need to address some of the clunky issue concerning interface design and interaction. The basic idea is good, however it is lacking. Really, all they would have to do is mimic any cellular device to get an idea. Shop for apps is weak. Control of the appearance is weak. Just needs some polishing and this thing would be amazing.
Pros: Design. Basic functionality. Simplicity in design.
Summary: I installed the Asteroid Smart into my 2007 GMC Yukon with the Axxess GMOS -LAN 1. Installation worked the first time I powered it up and I was able to retain factory chimes and steering wheel controls. I also put in a rear view camera. Lately, I have been having random trouble when it boots up from a long sleep. Sometimes the unit is frozen and doesn't register any screen touches. Other times it boots up without starting the bluetooth.
Pros: Great bluetooth, smooth touch response, improved loudness over factory system, great EQ and bass response. iPod connectivity is awesome. Plenty of USB ports.
Cons: Buggy bootup, difficult to reset while driving. Can not use iTunes radio while bluetooth internet is connected to unit. Plenty of glare on sunny days. Limited app store without rooting Will not display contact photos when synchronized with iPhone (Apple restrictions not Parrot's fault)
Summary: I looked for sometime for a head unit for my 86 Porsche 944, it was time to update my DEH-P5200 from 2002, I saw this unit sometime ago.. however I try and wait till whatever something is going to replace goes 'south' but in this case the unit that replaced the ole 5200 just looked stupid in my console.. Aesthetically this unit looks right at home in the console.
Summary: For starters the hands free bluetooth part works great. It sounds great on both ends. I read the reviews about it locking up and they are right. I have had to reset the unit 3 times and it takes forever to start up. That's ok though because I really hate messing with cd's. If you don't let it start up fully and mess with the volume or source it will lock up. The other thing is I bought an external drive to use and it hasn't worked with the parrot yet.
Summary: das Radio tut was es soll.
