Awful interface and awful display, bluetooth quality good
29 March 2012
Summary: I've had this thing for a year now, and it does nothing but drive me nuts. I use an Ipod Classic with it, and its interface to access it is atrocious. My iPod locks up quite a bit while hooked up to it as well. All of the menus for the options are ridiculous too. The LCD display panel is just about unreadable in most sunlight... the USB jack is an external cable that has to be routed from the BACK of the unit..
Summary: Granted this unit is VERY hard to figure out and VERY hard to see during the day, I did want to share something to all viewers about switching between radio station presets. On the remote, while the radio is playing, simply press the preset # and enter and the station changes to the pre-set number pressed. The display is VERY hard to read and as a result, last week I got into an accident. I am changing it for an Alpine with a color display.
Summary: I, like many others, bought this for its compatibility with the ZuneHD. This thing is so bad it makes me want to buy an iPod and buy back the Pioneer unit I sold for this junk. First, let me go for the good: plenty of customization options as far as display, text, and sound. Extensive EQ and overall great sound quality. Good build quality. Advanced sound settings have a "save" function that can be recalled after unplugging/disconnecting battery.
Summary: The 2-14-11 firmware update now available did not fix it. The video was jerky and the photos would not load. I had purchased the unit for these features as well as it works with a Zune HD. It did work with the Zune, showing the playlists and other folders on the unit screen. However, as pointed out in some previous review, it would occasionally flip to the first tune name of the alphabet, taking you out of the folder you were in.
Summary: Overall it works but requires way too much handholding. I'd agree with the other reviewers that the UI and menu navigation leaves a lot to be desired. There's a delay to skip between songs which is impacted by waiting for album art to download to the device. If you want to skip songs as they start, change the display to not show album art, or be forced to wait. The sound quality is good, but that in my mind is the price of entry to the category.
