Summary: Works very nicely with long lens like my Sigma 150-500mm. Makes panorama shots a breeze! Very stable and precise adjustments when compared to most ball heads, which makes up for the additional weight of the tripod. Recommended for any level photographer.
Summary: I was constantly frustrated in trying to make my old tripod "work" with my long range spotting scope. It was maddening to field the target and almost impossible to fine tune. The Vanguard Alta eliminates the guess work. When the target comes into view it stays put, no guesswork, totally reliable.
Summary: I got this in combination with the the Vangaurd Alta Pro 263AT tripod, and the two go together perfectly. I love this ball head. It allows you to very quickly get your camera into whatever position you want, and it will be locked right there when you let go of the grip.
Summary: I read mostly good reviews for this Pistol Grip, so I ordered it. The first thing you notice is how heavy it is! Adding to the weight, the cumbersome, large size makes it inconvenient, awkward to carry around. I carry it in a large photo vest pocket, until I am ready to set up my tripod.
Vanguard GH-100 Pistol Grip Ball Head used for hummingbird photography
16 September 2013
Summary: For shooting nectaring hummingbirds, I use my Vanguard GH-100 to support and maneuver either a Nikkor 300-mm optical lens, or a Nikkor 500-mm mirror reflex lens. The pistol grip control makes tracking hummers so much easier than pan & tilt heads.
