The Vanguard Alta Pro 263 AT.......A great product!!

Summary: I purchased this tripod about a month ago and have taken it on several photowalks through some major cities (Atlanta, New York, San Francisco). This tripod lends itself well to this kind of use. It is extremely sturdy....even with my 5DM2 on it. Setup is very quick thanks to the well designed quick locks on the legs. Also, the head is very easy to use. You get the benefit of a ball head with the ability to rotate on a single plane for multi-shot panoramas.
Pros: Extremely sturdy, versatile, and easy to set up in a hurry.
Cons: Can be a wee bit on the heavy side if carrying for long lengths of time.
Summary: I was really excited about this tripod having seen the reviews and videos on the web. I had mine delivered, got it out of the box and put the centre column at 90 degrees and now it is stuck there. I am really gutted I was really looking forward to getting out and about with it. The orange switch on the centre column just will not move. I am not looking forward to the prospect and sending it back and getting a refund.
Summary: I would have liked to have deducted just a quarter of a star if I could for the rather clumsy way the quick-shoe is connected to the camera. This necessitates the use of the provided key. Other manufacturers have a sprung key that folds flat under the shoe. It's churlish of me to complain about this small detail but it's magnified by the excellence of the design, engineering and construction of the rest of this tripod.
Excerpt: I was worried about height, but this tripod is more than adequate for my 5'9" frame. My favorite thing though by far, is the center column! I love how it allows me to position the camera at so many different angles.
Summary: Aluminium does a good job holding everything in place and each and every feature has its own specialities not light weight but you know its not light weight for a reason, hook it up with a gh-100 and you can go around the world with this tripod without getting a scratch on your cam. My best buy ever!
