Big and Sturdy

  • Excerpt: Being a hobbyist photographer for several years I have gone through about 6 inexpensive plastic tripods that were either slow to set up, difficult to aim with pan/tilt knobs, or lacked stability from weak locking legs. I've read several articles to invest in a good dependable tripod and took a chance on the Vanguard Alta Pro 263 with GH-100 pistol grip ball head. I am very happy with this set as it has none of the shortcomings of my previous tripods.

Pistol Grip Problem???

Markomarko, B&H Photo
27 January 2014
  • Excerpt: I had read on other reviews of this product before I purchased it and some said that the ball head would not stay where they put it and that it would slowly creep down with a larger millimeter lens on it. Well I put this to the test and set up the tripod and put my Nikon D5100 on it with my 70-300mm lens completely zoomed out. I tightened the back of the pistol grip down to secure it without over tightening.
  • Pros: Folds Small, Good Stability

Wow! Perfect!

  • Excerpt: The Alta Pro 263AGH w/GH-100 pistol grip ball head may not be the lightest but I love it! I appreciate the confidence knowing that anything I've put on it is secure. I normally am a photographer but my friends have used it for their old bulky heavy video cameras and they want to buy one! The carbon fiber version is my next tripod purchase.
  • Pros: Folds Small, Good Stability, Lightweight, Unfolds Quickly

Great product, love it!

  • Excerpt: After purchasing a new camera body and long zoom lens I was reluctant to attach such expensive equipment to a relatively inexpensive tripod. Because I want to photograph flowers, birds and other nature subjects in addition to macro photography I started to look at some of the videos on YouTube relative to my interests.
  • Pros: Good Stability, Lightweight, Unfolds Quickly, Well designed, Well made

Great Tripod- Hard to do better.

Skinny176, B&H Photo
11 December 2013
  • Excerpt: You would be hard pressed to find a tripod that is as stable and designed to provide vertical/horizontal positioning for the money. The tripod has cam locks for the legs which for me is a must have feature. Threaded locks are slow/tedious in my opinion.
  • Pros: Stable, Value For Money, Vert Horiz Positioning
  • Cons: Carry Bag Has Tight Fit

Best Tripod Leg and Pistol Grip Combo!

TheFercd, B&H Photo
23 November 2013
  • Excerpt: I've been eyeing the AltaPro 263 leg for a while. I'm also a big fan of pistol grip because it allows me to adjust my camera really quickly. I was reluctant to buy both separately because they were a bit over my budget. When B&H listed them as a combo, I couldn't resist anymore. The leg is super sturdy.
  • Pros: Fast Adjustment, Good Build, Good Stability, Pistol Prip
  • Cons: Stiff Pistol Grip
