over engineered

  • Excerpt: This head works but is not enjoyable to use. The pan tension knob worked vaguely if at all (maybe it was just my copy, as I returned it) and every knob has a opposing cuves on either end that may have sounded like a good idea on paper or on the computer while engineering but they just get in the...
  • Pros: Attaches Firmly, Good Stability, Large Range of Motion, Strong Clamp

Awesome

17 May 2015
  • Excerpt: Got this head for my Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 Aluminum tripod. Great combination. It holds my Nikon 610 with any lens I put on it, even the 150-600mm although I purchased a gimbal moount for it. Great mobility for panorama shots and the included bubble levels help for easy setup.
  • Pros: Easily Adjusted, Locks In Tight, Smooth Movement

Will do intended work, but at high weight and size factor.

  • Excerpt: 055 Item is very heavy for intended use. (with out using set screws...Paired with 055 XDB tripod is almost over weighted with it.) It would be better paired with the Manfrotto 058B Triaut setup, but that is getting beyond portable.
  • Pros: Decent Adjustments, Locks In Tight
  • Cons: Difficult To Adjust, Heavy, Top Heavy Tippy On Pod, Unstable

Difficult to pan

Andy, B&H Photo
17 March 2015
  • Excerpt: Overall the ball head seemed to be high quality, however, the panning mechanism on my particular unit had an excessive amount of resistance. With the pan lock off and the pan tension control fully loosened, the unit still was difficult to pan.
  • Pros: Attaches Firmly, Good Stability, Large Range of Motion, Strong Clamp
  • Cons: Difficult To Pan

Heavy duty ball-head

4 February 2015
  • Excerpt: Im a serious amateur photographer who invested in camera gear and felt it was time to start with a ball-head and tripod setup. I initially purchased the 054 ball head but when I went to the store and saw the 055, I sold my 054 and picked up the 055 with Q2 release.

Rock Solid Ball Head

Hammercamera, B&H Photo
6 October 2014
  • Excerpt: I purchased this ball head to replace a joystick head for my main non-travel tripod. I immediately noticed how steady my camera and my main lens (Nikon D5100, 18-300 telephoto) are when taking shots, even as I experiment with some macro photography. I highly recommend this ball head.

Ergonomically Intuitive

17 September 2014
  • Excerpt: This ball head is solid, well constructed and a joy to use. The controls are perfectly placed and intuitive. Though slightly heavier than my previous ball head, the 055 offers excellent stability along with security. The safety release is a must have feature.
  • Pros: Durable, Easy to Use
