Excellent video fluid head

  • Summary: Very high quality heavy duty and large fluid head. Instructions are, as usual, very poorly illustrated. For example hard to see how to open compartment for activating battery which powers LED to illuminate the bubble level indicator. Great for video shooting but a limitation not clearly spelled out is that this is not very good for still photography where you might want to switch from landscape to portrait camera orientation.
  • Pros: Attaches Firmly, Good Stability, Large Range of Motion, Strong Clamp
  • Cons: No orientation change

  • Summary: we needed another tripod with head for our video productions. we already have one and needed another for the 2nd camera. the tripod is easy to use. the head has a good fluid movement and is very smooth with its movements. The case that comes with it is good for location and storage when not in use.

Not quite what I expected

  • Summary: The mid-level spreader is loud and hard to use, doesn't quite sturdy the stix like thought they would. The 503 head is not much better than the 501 (if any), and the case is barely big enough for the tripod--but you have to take the foot pads off or carry the tripod upside down if you're going to fit it in the case.
