Summary: I was frustrated by a 3d head that I using in the studio so I finally bought this head and what a difference it made. Micro adjustments are a breeze and the gear release is an excellent option. It has much more freedom of movement than the Majestic head which requires the camera to have an L bracket for portrait orientation. The knobs are a bit small for adjustments and in slightly odd positions, but once you get used to the head, you'll absolutely love it.
Pros: A joy to use, Made of durable metal, Nice movements, Solid feel
Summary: I purchased this to use with my Wisner Tech-Field on a Berlebach Wooden Tripod and I am amazed at how much aggravation it relieves! Setup, leveling and minor adjustments are much faster and easier as compared to loosening, tightening and trying to make fine-adjustments with a conventional pan-tilt head. In addition, it is much easier to stow and carry the tripod in the canvas case. So far I haven't found anything that I don't like.
Summary: I bought this head for my architectural photography and it works with great pecision, I love it! It replaces my 804RC2 3 way head that was less precise and at times shocky in its movement. A must for interior photographers.
Summary: Shooting long exposures in near-dark makes for difficult composing, since I really can't see much in my viewfinder/eyepiece. I'll take a quick (high-ISO/low f-stop)trial shot, review on LCD, then tweak the camera position to improve my framing. When I was using a ball-head, this was a big hit-or-miss ... but using this geared head is a godsend. "A little left, and tilted" is easily fixed in the field with a simple knob turn here and there.
Summary: I got sick of ball heads that are impossible to adjust precisely and then slip, and levered heads that also are ditto. I use this head every day for macro botanical work with a D300 and it is great. Quick and very precise. Thanks B&H. Both my photography and my temper have been improved by this product.
Summary: Easy to set up and can be adjusted quickly or precisely! It can support up to 11lbs... but at the same time it makes this a very heavy head. It gives even a lightweight tripod some weight when it's attached.
Summary: I love this head, and I use it every day. I don't think you can do any better for the money! I find it very quick and precise and solid. Once you get used to having precise geared control over you camera's movement, it will be very hard to go back to a 'normal' head. It holds everything from my 1dsmkIII to my toyo 4x5. It is a bit more fragile than a normal head though. I dropped my tripod head first onto my first one and the gearing on one movement was damaged.
