Summary: I've been looking for alternatives for the pricey Custom Bracket and finally found this one. It's a perfect fit for my existing 486RC2 head. Comes complete with all adaptors so didn't have to worry about getting anything...just straight out of the box.
Summary: Works great with my medium format camera. Lost the washer first time out (what's the washer for any way?) but then went out and bought a 7/32" "E-clip" for about a $1 at [...] to lock in the camera retaining screw. I'm not as handy as one of the other reviewers but he gave me inspiration (of the affordable kind).
Summary: This is an indispensable addition to my camera bag. It beats tilting my camera sideways using the tripod head to change to a portrait shot, throwing the rig off balance. Simply release the camera, rotate the camera+bracket 90 degrees, the snap it back in. No adjustment to the tripod head also means keeping the same composition, too. My only quibble is the knob/screw used to attach the bracket to the tripod socket on the camera.
Pros: Durable, Easy to Use, Improves Function, Lightweight
Summary: I use it on both tripod and monopod for fast changes from vertical to horizontal. On the monopod, though, it seemed "backwards" to me. When mounted, the monopod head (which has just one direction of travel/pivot), would tilt it left and right....it really needs to tilt up and down (like nodding your head) more than side to side.
Summary: I originally bought this over a year ago hoping to create a panoramic head with it, but I bought an inexpensive pano head instead. Since I had this, I decided to give it a try. I use Bogen ball heads and a Bogen pan head I've converted to RC2. I use battery grips on my cameras and since I used to use a camera with a rotating back, I find it comfortable to have the shutter release, etc. in the same place whether the camera's horizontal or vertical.
Summary: Needed a quick switch from landscape to portrait mode without fumbling around reseting the tripod. This is it, for an event shooter that makes his money by the shot and dealing with important people the fast action of this accessory cannot be beat - looked at others and did not want to spend the money to convert my Manfrotto system to a different manufacturer.
Summary: There is nothing great about it. Everything that it does well, its SUPPOSED to do. Bad things are its heavier than most alternatives. The absolute worst thing about it is that 1/4" tripod mount screw is NOT attached. When this bracket is NOT attached to a camera, it's LOOSE, as in one step away from LOST, and then the bracket is useless. This is by far, the most inferior product Bogen sells. I would recommend everyone to pass on this.
Cons: Bulky, Difficult to Use, Easy to loose pieces, Not Functional
