Expensive for such a small tripod

themadscientist, Bestbuy

  • Summary: I have a Nikon D300 SLR camera with a heavy wide angle lens and when placed on the tripod to take vertical pictures the tripod was not able to support...
  • Pros: Its flexibility
  • Cons: Doesn't hold up a heavy camera!

Going Back

Chuck Steak, Adorama
25 December 2012
  • Excerpt: Doesn't maintain position or stability with a large zoom and body. (11 lbs. max handling is nonsense) My Canon 5d mkIII with my 70-200mm/f2.8 would not stay up and would eventually fall down. (5.5 lbs) Move the ballhead to the side for a portrait and crash she goes. I have too much $$$ invested to worry about a tripod crashing. Buy this only if you want to use light lenses or wrap a tripod around a pole or branch in a rare pinch.
  • Pros: Portable, Wraps Around Stuff
  • Cons: Clumsy, No Spirit Level, Rarely Needed, Unstable

Joby Gorillapod Original Tripod

GeauxBobo, REI
6 December 2012
  • Summary: You get what you pay for. The legs are pretty much all plastic, and making them clamp sturdy to anything is a challenge, if not impossible. I guess for light use, it would work, yet it cannot take a beating. I had one of the legs break as I was trying to get it to clamp firmly to something.
  • Pros: Looks Cool
  • Cons: Weak Clamp

It's good for holding a flash unit

Randman, Adorama
6 September 2010
  • Excerpt: These leggs claim to hold 6.5 Lbs, but when put to the test they kept collapsing my camera by sliding the leggs down and out from the weight which by the way is not even 4 Lbs with the lens attached and it is very unstable causing the camera to tip easy, so if you have this, hold your camera and don't trust it by leaving it. I think I should have got the one that can hold 11 Lbs instead.
  • Pros: Lightweight
  • Cons: Unstable

More hype than substance

stee1face, Adorama

  • Excerpt: I decided to give this thing a try after all the positive reviews, but after a couple of uses one of the legs crack. This is not a good product for realistic situations. Is more hype that substance.
  • Pros: Lightweight
  • Cons: Unstable, Weak Construction

I don't understand the hype

NotMyToot..., Ciao
6 March 2013
  • Excerpt: "I got this off of amazon for a ridiculously low price; £1 or something like that with free shipping - I don't know how they manage to make a profit! The tripod itself is made of plastic with rubber bands across each of the ball joints to aid grip when the tripod is tied around posts, shelves or the cat. There is also a large rubber sock on the final ball in each leg to aid in the grip of standard tripod operation to the surface it is resting upon. ...
  • Pros: Cheap, good rubber, grips to anything
  • Cons: Brittle plastic, Difficult to straighten legs, can't get a level shot

Joby Gorillapod SLR. Smart, men inte så stabil

e_lof, Ciao
25 August 2013

Gute Idee weniger gut gemacht

Thomas Schaefer, Amazon
26 April 2011
