Great Tripod

Gyr, B&H Photo
5 February 2009
  • Summary: I use it to photo wildlife (80%) and landscapes (20%). The center column allows me to stand erect when taking images. It is fairly light weight & supports my super telephoto lens easily. It is very well constructed, well designed with great machining. The carbon fiber legs are very pretty. This is expensive, but it will last a life time. Younger purchasers will have a lower lifetime pro rata cost than older purchasers.
  • Pros: Appearance, Construction, Ease of Use, Gets low, Light enough to carry, Sturdiness, Versatile
  • Cons: very expensive

Best in the range but . . .

Girafoto, WEX
23 April 2010
  • Summary: I upgraded from a relatively good aluminium tripod to this one, and was amazed by the difference - the feel of solidity is simply amazing. I'd had reservations about the twist locks (the previous one had lever locks) but it was not only not an issue, the twist locks turned out to be better.Downsides? Forget the centre column - in fact, I replaced it with a Markins base unit.
  • Pros: Easy to use, Solid
  • Cons: forget the centre column
