Summary: My previous monopod though good, is too long and heavy to be consider compact. Gitzo 2541 6X monopod gives me the sturdy feel, and very secure with big lenses. The folded length and weight are negligible, and the belt clip that comes with it is of brilliant yet simple design that works!
Summary: I'm planning an overseas trip where this monopod will substitute for my usual tripod. The quick release plate fits with the camera plate I already have making portrait shots as easy as landscapes. I am having to learn how to stand still for those low light shots. Fortunately with the higher ISO's available that shouldn't be a problem.
Summary: Great monopod! Easily handles a D80 with a 70-200 mm lens; could go quite a bit larger. Great for sports/action, collapses to nearly nothing. Tall size is more than what I need (6'1"). Circular lock system is quick with some practice.
Pros: Compact, Easily Adjusted, Good Footing, Lightweight
Summary: I recently went on a four day tour on a tundra buggy in Churchill Manitoba to photograph the Polar Bears and being this was my second trip I knew I needed a stable platform for my Canon 500mm lense mounted on my Canon 5D. Knowing that there would be other people on board the vehicle a tripod would not be the best platform to use because of the inconvience it would cause to others.
Pros: Good Footing, Lightweight, Locks In Tight, Rugged, Smooth Movement
Summary: Stability and ease of use in places where a tripod will not work. I use it with a Canon 5D and a 70-200mm lens with and without a 2X extender with excellent results. Panning with multiple shots of NHRA top fuel dragsters is flawless. If you want a great monopod, this one is a must have.
Pros: Easily Adjusted, Good Footing, Lightweight, Locks In Tight, Rugged, Smooth Movement
Summary: I use this with the RRS Hi-Capacity monopod head for sports/wildlife with a Canon 300mm f/2.8L IS (1DIII). I sometimes take it on hikes with a wide angle zoom (5D). I'm not sure the new twist-lock system is any better than the one on my older 2-series tripod but at least you can now see which way to turn if you've over-loosened. Quality product.
