Excerpt: Was looking for a tripod head for digiscoping. Went on the positive reviews and purchased this head. Yes it's lightweight and nicely built but it not have the feel of a fluid head. It is more like a friction head.
Summary: This is the lightest tripod head I have had, and like it a lot. It is easy to use with good rotation, both side to side and up and down. I am using it with my Nikon Fieldscope which is very lightweight and a Gitzo tripod.
Excerpt: The GH1720QR is really good, easy to use with easy and smoothness of movement, especially when penning. It is strong and light. I am able to use it with heavy lenses such as Nikon 300 mm VR f/1.4 and the Nikon fieldscope 85mm VR. It can be used with any tripod.
Pros: Attaches Firmly, Good Stability, Large Range of Motion, Strong Clamp
Excerpt: I use the 1720 QR to support my spotting scope and it works great. I was out with it all day and was always impressed with how smooth it was, how easy it was to adjust to a bird's movement, always precise.
Excerpt: I tested this with an 80mm Swarovski scope (total weight with eyepiece is 3.6 lbs). Although I feel the head might be better sized for a 60mm class scope, it's overall weight seemed on par with other heads that do well with 80's.
Excerpt: This head is light, quick and easy to adjust its tightness with a single large know. It works well with a spotting scope or long lens, pans smoothly and easily and locks completely when needed to.
