Excerpt: I use this on a monopod, a Gitzo aluminum 2341. It helps with angling the monopod the way I like, and giving some extra height to the monopod. I added a 1.75" Kirk clamp to make it an Arca release ball. With just a single control the ball is quick and easy to manipulate. The ball moves easily, but is not buttery smooth like Kirk and RRS ball heads. For the price (especially with the current rebate) it is a bargain.
Pros: Attaches Firmly, Good Stability, Large Range of Motion, Strong Clamp
Summary: I purchased this ball & socket head for use with my Gitzo basalt tripod (replacing my existing tripod head by another manufacturer). Although it is compact, it is more than adequate to support my Leica X1. It feels like it is of solid construction and hopefully will give many years of service. Very pleased with it so far.
Pros: Compact, Easily Adjusted, Lightweight, Locks In Tight, Smooth Movement
Summary: The mixed delights of this tripod head are confusing me. Coupled with a Gitzo lightweight tripod, it is the ideal weight for a travelling person. But as soon as you try to micro adjustments to straighten those horizons, the flaws become apaprent. I cannot fault Gitzo, beacuse this is exactly as it is designed and exactly as advertised...a case of buyer beware....So I will keep it on my tripod, but always wish I could have a tension adjuster ball head.
