Summary: This ballhead is amazing! I needed it for a large, heavy Nikon SLR + telephoto lens combination. The Giottos MH-1300 Pro Series II is rock solid, yet smooth and precise in all movements. It requires very little pressure to lock it in any position. The build and finish quality can't be beat. You won't find any better -[...] I would recommend it to anyone.
Pros: Fits Well, Improves Tripod Function, Smooth and precise, Solid/Sturdy
Summary: I purchased this ball head along with a Bogen/Manfrotto tripod 055MF3 (Read my review). While I never used a ball head before, (I always had a three way pan tilt)getting use to this came quickly and easly. You can put your camera at any angle and then lock it in place with one knob! The tension knob dose'nt seems like much use to me, (I either want to move the ball head or I don't). It pans smothly.
Summary: I wanted a ballhead for my Giottos tripod, and this one fit the requirements, and more. It comes with easy to understand knobs, which put everything completely tightly locked, Even with a heavy body and a 70-200 on it.Only con was that an extra plate that I ordered wasn' t tight enough at all, but it was quickly replaced by the good people at WEX.
Pros: Compact, Easily Adjusted, Locks In Tight, Smooth Movement
Summary: Bad mounting design. On the base of the removeable plate, it has an arrow showing recommended position of lens. See photos. The problem is that when placed on the mount, you cannont tighten the plate as it clashes with the bottom of the camera.
Summary: I use the ball head on a regular basis, it is a little on the heavy side but don't let that deter you from buying it, it is a great bit of kit, as it is a ball head there are spirit levels on the head, not a major problem but a bit of a pain lining up, the thing I use is a spirit level on the hot shoe instead.
Summary: Great ball head. Mine is on a Manfrotto 055XPROB.I love the friction adjuster and the oversized locking knob as I can easily tell all 3 knobs apart in the dark with gloved hands. The pan lock control makes panoramic stitching a breeze. Locks solid and has a smooth motion even with my 400mm lens. Only downside is the weight which I knew before I brought it. This is coming from a climber that looks a ways to trim kit down to the last gram. Still you can't have everything.
Pros: Easily Adjusted, Good Footing, Locks In Tight, Smooth Movement
