A nice upgrade over the built in flash

  • Excerpt: I'm using this with an Olympus e-PL1 camera with 14-42 kit lens, and some other adapted manual lenses. It is very simple to use out the box. - Attach it to the camera and click away. The package came with a nice vinyl bag and the foot- I'd read otherwise. The build quality seems just fine to me. Plenty durable. Others have mentioned a dislike for the battery compartment door. It slides forward, and has a hinge on the bottom.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Easy To Use, Fast Recycling, Versatile

  • Summary: In my long time doing photography work, I used Vivitar flashes for over two and a half decades. Without any problems, I thought I would go with a trusted name I liked and worked with before. Some how when I tried my new 383 I couldn't get it to work right, the controls where not usable. The TTL and Auto focus light din't want to work.... All I got on the Camera was washed out photos even after bouncing the flash off the ceiling.

  • Summary: I purchased this external flash to use with my Nikon and it literally broke the first time using it! I was shooting a birthday party, it stopped working, was extremely hot and then started making a clicking noise. Now it is not working at all! Thankfully I can return it at Walmart since I just received it days ago. I will be purchasing the Nikon brand now. It's more expensive, but you get what you pay for.

LOVE my new flash!

Mama Chas, B&H Photo

  • Excerpt: I took pictures at my 1st grade daughter's morning Christmas program without the flash. Received it in the mail that day. Retook the pictures at her afternoon program, and the different results were incredible! First of all, NO RED EYES! Secondly, just overall better color and sharpness. Also, love the flexibility of the lens to capture just the right lighting.

Vivitar DF-383 Digital TTL

  • Excerpt: I am using this on a Panasonic GX1 micro 4/3 Camera. For the price the flash is quite good. The light quality is very nice especially if you bounce the light off a wall or standard height ceiling. The refresh is not bad with a fresh set of batteries but it does dwindle fast. the balance isn't bad but I'm still getting use to holding a micro 4/3 camera over a dslr.

  • Excerpt: I use primarily for wildlife with a Better Beamer, and also multi-flash set-up. This is the second flash of this model that I have. This one has a more substantial metal shoe that I really like as it appears to be much more robust.
