Summary: This flash, like everything else Nikon is excellent as far as overall quality however this is not a flash for event photographers that need multiple shots taken in a brief period. The flash (I use a quantum battery pack) has nice range and excellent light coverage but the auto shutdown feature whines (quite loudly) and shuts the unit down after multiple shots in a short period. The SB-800 was far more reliable.
Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Easy To Use, Powerful Output
Summary: To be honest i prefer the SB-600 or SB-800 to this speed light. There are great features but the battery life really brings the SB-900 down a notch. I love the master mode and the switch on the front. Its great for outdoors and has a wonderuful range. As a studio srtobist i do not get my moneys worth from all of its features. The flash heats up very fast and the recycle time is slow.
Pros: Durable, Easy To Use, Feature Rich, Great range, Looks cool
Summary: This flash can do it all it seems. I like the new PC port cover, zoom range, lack of needing a 5th battery, and easy CLS menu access. I am concerned about its weight and wear and tear on the flash shoe and camera hot-shoe. The supplied case seems an improvement over the SB-800's. The number of flashes per charge is down a little, and recycle rate on the SD-8a and Quantum Turbo is a little slower.
Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Easy access to CLS menu, Fast Recycling, Powerful Output, Quiet
Summary: So having owned a SB800 and upgrading to the SB900(to add to my "strobist" collection), I have found that the extra cost is reasonably acceptable. For those that don't want to modify their SB-800 you get a flash head that now rotates to full 360 degrees. No more need to risk damage to your SB-800 that was limited to one side full rotation.
Pros: Consistent Output, Easily Interchangeable, Fast Recycling
Pros: As gelatinas de controle da temperatura de cores;
