Versatile and very capable flash

Lazlo, B&H Photo
29 January 2015
  • Excerpt: Automatic (non-TTL dedicated) flash fits my needs perfectly. Three aperture settings give enough latitude to provide main lighting or very subtle fill light. Zoom function adds even more capability, not only for coverage but to reduce or increase the amount of light on the subject. In wide coverage, the light is spread out resulting in lower guide number, i.e.; less light. Rating would easily be 5 stars except for the price.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Fast Recycling, Powerful Output, Versatile
  • Cons: Pricey Eh

Good Flash for Price

  • Excerpt: The flash overall for the price is great. It works well in automatic mode and has a good recycling rate. The manual mode only allows for full flash so I couldn't adjust it manually when needed. Good as a basic flash if you are not looking for anything with detailed manual adjustments!
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Easy To Use, Fast Recycling, Lightweight, Powerful Output
  • Cons: Not Ideal For Manual Mode

  • Excerpt: If you don't want your equipment to do everything for you, or if you are on a budget, then this is a good item to have. It has more than enough output for most everyday situations, and is a good second flash. It works, and it is simple to use.

THE BEST YET

HIS NIBBS, B&H Photo
15 March 2012
  • Excerpt: as a serious amateur photographer, i use this unit all around my house, taking shots of my pets, family members and still life. I've had several flashguns over the yearsand this is the best so far. It is well made and it is perfectly adequate for full and partial fill lighting and so easy to use, but would also be a useful tool for a Pro For the kind of retro style manual camera i use, i can't find any reason at all to fault it, especially for the price.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, EASY TO GET USED TO, Easy To Use, Fast Recycling, Lightweight, Versatile, WELL MADE AND NOT TOO HEA
  • Cons: NO RADIO TO OTHER UNITS

User Review

  • Excerpt: I prefer to use manual flashes like these at weddings and indoor events. This flash is very versatile with a great deal of manual settings, you can even set the focal length. One of the nicest features I have found is simply the lack of a battery cartridge, you load the batteries in the compartment just as you would in many TTL dedicated flashes. The Vivitar 285's had a cartridge that you put the batteries into then you loaded that into the body of a flash.
