  • Summary: I am 14 years old and bought this flash to use over my canon 580ex II crappy pop-up flash. It is much more powerful than I expected and killer build quality. It is very inexpensive- $389 new off of Amazon.com. It also has a much higher quality of light because of strobe size.
  • Pros: high guide # (190), Extremely good build quality, Flash zoom :), 180 degree range of motionGood weight, Looks cool, Many C. fn., Limitless possibilties

Ametuer flash masquerading as a pro unit

clairbear_ski, shopping.com
6 November 2009
  • Excerpt: I bought this flash based on recomendations. I had hoped it would meet my need but it is under powered, the light out put is at best not consistent in the manual mode and in the prgram mode it only want to user the lens wide open.
  • Pros: Quality Construction, Lightweight
  • Cons: Overpriced, Difficult to Use

Indespensible tool, changed my indoor photography style completly

katzer1, shopping.com
9 September 2009
  • Excerpt: I used to use available light with fast primes and high iso for indoor shooting. I'd still do that if for say I was taking a picture of a baby or folks with sensitives eyes but no more.
  • Pros: Powerfull fast recycling time, ETTL is spot on
  • Cons: more expensive than the rest, not by much though

Canon Speedlite 580EX II

TheHobbit, PriceGrabber
24 February 2008
  • Summary: This flash is much better than the built in one from my DSLR. My camera automatically detected this flash and adjusted to the flash without any problems. You might want to get a diffuser as well. It uses 4 AA batteries and comes with a paded case. This flash upgrade is definitely worth it.
  • Pros: Canon's best flash for your DSLR!!!
  • Cons: A little bit bulky and heavy.

580ex II outstanding

a386, PriceGrabber
12 January 2008
  • Summary: I would say that this flash is worth every penny, and well worth the price premium compared to the 420EX. I was struggling to choose 430ex & 580ex. Their price are about $100 different. There are many functions on this flash that I don't understand and the manual didn't tell you much at all.
  • Pros: powerful, great for indoor & outdoor shot.
  • Cons: Heavy. Poor documentation, manual.

Very nice updates from 580EX

bluejeff, PriceGrabber
12 January 2008
  • Summary: First of all, I think this is a very nice flash, same as my 580EX and 430EX. The recharing time now is even faster than the original 580EX and the build of the flash is very sturdy and I think it's going to last a long time.
  • Pros: 1. Faster recharing 2. Weather-sealed 3. Overall built
  • Cons: 1. The master/slave switch is now gone; very inconvenient 2. New design on the hot shoe and connecter. Will not work well on bodies prior 1DIII

580ex II

dwang2k, PriceGrabber
6 January 2008
  • Summary: Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a powerful flash for their Canon DLSR, even for the small size xt and xti. With 580ex II in hand, you will never use the integrated flash any more.
  • Pros: very faster recycling time. powerfull light. ETTL-II. 4 AA battery.
  • Cons: bulkier, feel heavy and hard to balance on my 350D
