Excerpt: I owned a 430 EX for about 12 years, and it was stolen recently. I bought a 430 EX II as a replacement. It has a vastly improved and rapid lock/unlock for the hot shoe, compared to the 430 EX. With the 430 EX I first tried out bounce flash off the ceiling.
Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Fast Recycling, Powerful Output, Versatile
Excerpt: Not sure what else to say... wish I had more power for the cash. I thought I would use this for HSS a lot more but after purchasing these I learned its not worth doing HSS with the battery loss. As for ETTL, its ok, wish it was better.
Excerpt: This flash works well, however it does not bend at less than a 90 degree angle, so it doesn't work for macro photography at all. If you want to use it for macro work, you have to use something else to make it work (I used a hydrostatic arm and shoe cord until I upgraded to the twin flash bracket)...
Excerpt: I was excited to find that this flash was smaller than my lumapro 160's a concern I had when choosing to get a higher end speedlite for event photography. the 430EX II is simple to use full fitted and the right size for a photographer on the go.
Excerpt: 4 stars only because it's over priced. Works perfectly, but compared to my touchscreen Canon dslr it's attached to, it seems like over priced 1990's dinosaur tech. Again 100% reliability, good build quality, but the display and buttons remind me of a solar powered calculator I had in 1990.
