The Speedlite 430EX II requires 4 AA-size Alkaline Batteries (6V) or 4 AA-size Ni-MH (4.8V) to operate. The unit measures 72 x 122 x 101 mm and weighs 330g (without batteries).
The Canon Speedlite 430EX II features a flash (guide number of 141 ft./43m at ISO 100) with a fast recycling time. A one-touch quick-lock mechanism attaches or detaches the 430EX II from the camera and a metal foot has been added. Flash controls can be set through the camera’s LCD screen on compatible EOS Digital SLR cameras. The Speedlite 430EX II is quieter, with recycle time 20% faster tha the 430EX and is compatible with Canon’s wireless E-TTL, thus it can be used as an affordable "slave unit". The flash head can be moved up from 0 - 90° (5 settings), left from 0 - 180° (7 settings) and right from 0 - 90° (4 settings). The Speedlite 430EX II gives approximately up to 200 to 1,400 numbers of flash, with AA-size Alkaline Batteries or AA-size Ni-MH fully-charged batteries. Its recycling time is approximately 0.1 to 3.7 seconds (AA-size Alkaline Batteries)/0.1 to 2 seconds (AA-size Ni-MH batteries). At ISO 100, with EF 50mm f/1.4 its flash range is approximately 2.3-79.7 ft./0.7-24.3m (normal mode) and approximately 2.3-39.4 ft./0.7-12m (high sync speed EF flash).
