Fun Filter

wizwhelan2012, Ebay
10 May 2014
  • Summary: Like it.Price was right. Use it with a Pentax fa 50mm 1.4 Prime. Easy to use. Good results. Have only done Black and white. A bit of a gimmick but is something to do in the middle of the day when sun is high. That's the best time to use it. Works just fine with my Pentax K5.

  • Summary: Awesome product and great quality. Also I received it really quick. I used it a lot on my IR project and the result is amazing. Its the best filter Ive ever used and I will never stop using it. I definitely recommend this product. Not like the one I bought before, it was really cheap and there was no detail on the image, so I couldn't really tell if it was IR but this product really made a big difference. I let my friends borrowed it and they love it.

Nicely made, fair price.

RM, Adorama

  • Excerpt: Not a lot to say. Usual high Hoya quality. Does what it's supposed to do. I use it with Ilford SFX and Rollei IR film. Only problem and this is NOT the fault of design or build is that R72 filter are so dark that you have to compose & focus and then put the filter on. You will REALLY surprised how dark this filter is.
  • Pros: Firm Mount, Strong Construction

Great glass but poor construction

saltgrassphotography, Ebay
31 January 2012
  • Summary: This is the "go to," filter for infrared photography. And no doubt about it, the quality of the glass and its ability to transmit the right kind of light is spectacular. The reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars is because Hoya seems to have a quality control issue concerning the glass mounting within the metal ring. Although I have seen this problem occur with this particular filter, all their filters seem prone to this problem.

Dreamy or spooky - definitely fantastic

lucianodeszo, Ebay
28 January 2011
  • Summary: This filter gives you the possibility to see what humans can't: infrared light. Not that one related to heat, but the spectrum which "hides" itself just below the red light we can see. The results are often dreamy (or oniric), it looks like an unreal reality. Some people might find spooky, specialy when a human is portrayed, but personaly I find it just beautiful. Try it and you'll probably love it!

great for IR film

alfasi77, Ebay
25 September 2010
  • Summary: Use this filter on my Pentax Spotmatic F ,or with Holga using Filter Step Up Ring(46-49). On both 35 and 120 I get great reasult when exposed As ISO-12. Tripod and shutter release cable are must have. Highly recommended with great results especially with the relatively low price for the 49mm.
