Almost but not quite

 • Excerpt: Bought this for my new AF-S Micro Nikkor 105mm 1: 2.8G ED VRII lens. Took some pictures of a my wife's moss rose in shadow and full sun. Color was off, too pink. Removed the filter and the color was better. It was apparently dipping into the blue spectrum a little to far. Camera = D300. I will be looking to replace this filter with a different one.

My gear = D300 + 12-24mm Nikkor + 18-200mm Nikkor + 105mm Micro Nikkor + 50-500 Sigma + ?
 • Pros: Easy To Use, Firm Mount, Strong Construction
 • Cons: Slight reduction in blues

Wouldn't go without one

Red Man, B&H Photo
5 August 2008
 • Excerpt: Why buy a great lens and put a cheap filter over it? The lens is only as good as the weakest link. Have a great lens? Put a good, quality filter over it. A UV filter is a good investment not only to cut down haze but as a protection from damage. Shortly after buying a new Nikon D300 with the 18-200VR lens, my wife happened to be hiking in the mountains with it, slipped and rolled down a hill. The UV filter scratched, but protected my lens. A good investment.
