  • Excerpt: Works as it should, scratches a bit easy but I get the feeling all lens hoods do.
  • Pros: Easily Interchangeable, Lightweight

I would by this product again!

  • Excerpt: I have the Vello hood that came with the lens when I bought it. The Vello was prone to lens flare. The felt lining of the Canon seems to have done away with it. The only reason for the 4 rating is that the material is not as heavy as some of my other Canon lens hoods for the price.

  • Excerpt: had to stay with the original Canon Hood as I've done in the past.. why go 'on the cheap' even though the Canon-price is too high( so -1 star out of the 5)..
  • Pros: Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Felt Inside Hood, Lens Flare Control
  • Cons: C'mon Canon Lower That Pr, Canon-price Too High

Works well; costs a lot

  • Excerpt: I bought a cheap-o lens hood for $4 from [*] that was supposed to work for this lens; but it definitely did NOT. You could see the hood through the lens!So I sucked it up and bought this. I immediately noticed the quality of construction, and snug fit to the lens. Plus the inside of the hood is covered by some form of fabric to prevent shine. Great product. Would've given 5stars if it wasn't so dang expensive.
  • Pros: Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Lightweight, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Expensive

Larger Profile, For Better or Worse

[Big University] Shooter, B&H Photo
22 December 2011
  • Excerpt: This lens hood does its job. The only downside or upside to it, as with any lens hood, is that it'll make you significantly more "high-profile." It's great for blocking bumps and frocking dust away (there's some velvet-y lining on the inside of the hard plastic hood), but the diameter is significantly (a subjective word used here) larger than that of diameter of the lens it's used on.
  • Pros: Durable, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Difficult to Clean, Heavy

Don't mess around with knock offs

RJinAZ, B&H Photo
24 May 2011
  • Excerpt: I originally had a knock off lens hood for my Canon EF-S 17-55mm F/2.8 lens but it would never stay on tightly. It looked okay but poor workmanship caused it to slip and part of the petal even showed up in some of my pictures. I bought this one and have never had a problem. The Canon brand hood is also more durable than those cheap knock offs. I will now always stick with Canon for my lens hoods.
  • Pros: Consistent Output, Durable, Lightweight, Rugged, Strong Construction

Does what it's supposed to it

Patrick, B&H Photo
10 January 2011
  • Excerpt: Does what it's supposed to do and does a great job of protecting the front element. Turns on securely and I like that the inner side of the hood has a black felt like material to reduce any kind of glare. Downside: It's expensive and prone to scratching.
  • Pros: Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Lightweight, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Prone to Scratches
