Very useful but overpriced

  • Excerpt: The 17-55 f/2.8 lens deserves some good protection, specially considering its huge 77mm front element. Very useful in keeping rain, snow and fingerprints out. And yes, it should be included in the package for a lens in this price range but what can you do?

Works fine.

  • Excerpt: It's a little stiff getting it on and I tend to "cross thread" it sometimes. When I have it on backwards (storage mode) it does cover most of the zoom ring, making it akward to zoom in/out. It's also a rather pricey piece of plastic. But we gotta have it...

  • Excerpt: The product preforms as needed, but the price is high. I would alos consider BH third party option and save some $$$!
  • Pros: Durable, Strong Construction

Should come with lens

  • Excerpt: I definitely would not purchase a knock-off brand lens hood, but for the cost of my 17-55 2.8 IS lens, this should have been included. There aren't any moving parts, so no complaints as of yet. Great product, bu I don't think Canon is being hurt this bad by the economy that I should have to pay for it.

Don't Leave Home Without It.

19 June 2008
  • Excerpt: It's a "must-have" if you're working outside. Quality etc. all great. The only reason it gets three stars is because of the price. This item should be included with the lens, just like a lens cap.
  • Pros: Durable, Easy To Use, Improves Product Function, Lightweight
  • Cons: Price is unfair

BIG

paazel, PriceGrabber
31 January 2008
  • Summary: I finally got around to picking this hood up for my 17-55mm lens. It's really big, so I'm only using it during sunny days. For the night it's too cumbersome for me & gets in the way while zooming. Canon should think about enclosing this with the lens. At ~$45 it's pretty expensive for a piece of plastic!
  • Pros: It works!!!
  • Cons: BIG & Expensive
