"Safer and cheaper than sending tapes to a service."
25 November 2013
Pros: Cheaper than sending them to a service. No fear of losing your tapes. Works with VCR AND Video 8 tapes (Services requires a minimum of each.) Can be used by family and friends. Can be sold after use for almost what you paid. Easy. No Computer Needed.
Cons: You have to watch it while recording because VCR tapes and Mini 8 tapes are longer than DVDs allow so you have to switch to another DVD midstream.
Summary: This is an easy to use product, just connect the cables from your camcorder or your camera and press record. You cannot edit your movies, except to pause and skip the segment that you do not want to record. Overall, a good product, and easy to use.
Pros: Attractive Design, Fast Recording, Fast Setup, Simple Controls
Summary: Used this about 10 times to burn a quick copy of NCAA games from a Sony DSR 390 camcorder. When it worked - about 50% of the time - it was terrific. Now two weeks out of warranty (one year) it stopped working altogether and Sony told me to pound sand. Owning Sony pro video equipment, I was disappointed that they chose not stand behind their product. If you feel the urge to buy one of these handsome looking units, move on; you will be glad you did.
Summary: We run these units, connected to a video camera using composite or SVHS input, in the field to provide a DVD to Sports Teams right after the game. Coaches love the DVDs! They perform very well, we power them using a battery and inverter and they perform flawlessly (they only draw 32 watts). They work very well for football with multiple start/stops (play by plays)and no failures. The key is to use high quality media (Taiyo-Yuden).
Pros: Compact, Consistent Performance, Easy To Set Up, Easy To Use
Summary: I bought the MC5 to transfer our old VHS family movies to DVD. It works great either with a VHS player or my old Sony 8mm video camera. It is very simple and straight forward to use. I wanted to edit the 'raw' movies in 'imovie' and that is where I ran into a problem. You need software to change the format to be compatible with 'imovie'. Fortunately, there are a few apps available.
Pros: Attractive Design, Consistent Performance, Easy To Set Up, Easy To Use, High Quality Picture
