Summary: This video light has been with me for years. Best $ I have spent. It goes with me everywhere, it is easy to use, reliable, and lightweight so you can carry it on every shoot and not have to worry if you will need it or not. I have used this light so much I can not count the ways. The best video light for the price, size, and capabilities.
Pros: Consistent, Easy To Setup, Lightweight, Reliable
Summary: I first bought this light about 5 years ago. It's very bright and although you can't dim it you can select between 20 & 10 watts. I've rented other on camera lights that were brighter, dim-able and came with barn doors. All great except for the gigantic battery belt you have to lug around. This Sony light is great for the price and very portable. It is a little flimsy and in fact it has fallen and broke into pieces several times, but still works.
Summary: We make mostly documentaries films and find this little light quite useful for some ocasions where we have no power supply nearby. It´s not a strong source of light but really helps if there´s no light around and you need to captute the image.
Summary: Beware: The plastic square that slides into the camera is thin plastic. Two have broken on me so far. It needs a heavy battery to get 20 watts and a jolt easily cracks the plastic square that holds the light to the camera.Sony repair says it is my fault and will not honor their guarrantee.
Summary: I was shopping for a lamp to use on my panasonic GS500 and did some research on B+H and came up with the Sony and the huge battery that last for as long as the tape- I use DV and convert on my Mac. Well, I can finally make some good low light movies of the kids and dog and parties and family events with ease! The only thing is be careful it does tend to get hot to the touch so consider where you place it after use! I am very pleased with the results of my purchase.
Pros: Attach Securely, Even Light Source, Long Lasting, Powerful
Summary: This is a fairly affordable on-camera light which is very easy to operate with the Sony PD-150/170. The lighting is good for simple shooting and can take care of most basic lighting needs. However, when using the smaller batteries, only one of the two lights works, which means you will need to use a bigger, more expensive and heavier battery if you want the light to work properly.
Summary: I use this light with my Sony VX-2100 camcorders to capture great footage in low-light situations such as wedding receptions. You must supply your own battery and have the option to use one lamp or two. (For two lamp use you must have one of the larger batteries). The light bulbs are incandesent so there is a "warmer" or more yellow than blue illumination. It has a fairly good range.
