Good cheap calculator, will almost surely do whatever any other scientific calculator can do, probably more.

  • Summary: I have been using this calculator for 2 semesters now, 2 full classes in algebra. This calculator is much better and more usable than the single line screen scientific calculators because of its multi line write view feature. It will in most cases present information how it would be written, and will give the answer in simplified fraction or root form with the decimal approximation only a button push away.

3 steps back from the EL-516

Adam Fishburn "Adam", Amazon
  • Summary: I purchased this model (EL-W516X) because I already owned the EL-W516 and liked it. I wanted another El-516 for work but couldn't find one so I got the EL-W516X, which appears to be its replacement. I'm disappointed with the EL-516X. Three things: the buttons, the glossy finish, and the removable back panel. The buttons are cheaper and flimsier feeling. The glossy finish will show scratches and stains more readily. The back panel does not fit as snugly. 3 steps back.

Sharp, take note!

RAHIM SH, Amazon
8 February 2015
  • Summary: I have been looking for an easy to use calculator for a long while now. This one is very funtional, specifically WriteView. It allows you to type in calculations as you would write them, as compared to other calculators where you have to remember what key you entered causing you confusion and having to start over. While it is funtional, I have one main compliant, and since this product is being sold on ascetics, it is only fair to comment on it.

Rich set of features, easy to use, and amazingly affordable. I use it more than my TI-89!

  • Summary: Most benefits and features of this calculator have already been well described by other reviewers, so I will just give you my person experience. As a software engineer that uses mathematics on a daily basis, I find this calculator to exceed my expectation terms of usability and feature set. I also have a ti-89, but this calculator is still my go-to calculator.

The joke isn't funny

John, Amazon
26 December 2014
  • Summary: Kind of seems like someone is playing a joke on me when I input "5" "/" "4" "=" and get "5/4" or "1-1/4" as the answer! Yes, you can force it to give a decimal answer but for every dammed calculation! You can set it in a mode that forces it to do operations in decimal but you can't lock-in that mode!

Perfect software, flimsy build quality.

Anne K., Amazon
27 September 2014
  • Summary: I love the WriteView feature that this Sharp Calculator has and all of the other useful computational features as well. However, the new model of this calculator feels flimsy, plastic-y, and too light-weighted. There is one improvement to this model: Sharp got rid of their protruding display design and instead put the display lower to the rest of the calculator. My old sharp model had its screen all scratched up because the display was raised.

I use this calculator as almost my hobby now with all of the functions available

Amazon Customer, Amazon
22 September 2014
  • Summary: I purchased this calculator along with many others due to my not paying attention while in high school to now find myself in college and realizing that I should have been listening more then. This calculator does more than I could even think could be done. It has many functions, in fact more than I even need, however, for me just understanding and learning how to use the functions is turning into an actual hobby for some reason.

How about providing an instruction manual?

Ray, Amazon
30 August 2014
  • Summary: Probably deserves a rating of 5 stars in terms of functionality but a big fat zero for the instructions. It used to happen that scientific and engineering type calculators would come with an instruction book that would explain how to perform the various functions of a calculator in such a way that it was almost like having a math book. This calculator comes with a sheet of paper that basically shows you the functions that are available on the calculator.

  • Summary: Before this calculator I had a similar sharp calculator with writeview. I used the calculator through high shool and lost it just this summer, during my college math class. I looked all around for a calculator with writeview and found this which was almost exactly identical to my old one just a little prettier. I love this calculator, the best part forme is being able to change the form the answers are written in.
