Summary: I needed a portable music player that I could take to my garage while I'm working there on the weekend, or use during power outages (I am stationed overseas where that happens all too frequently). I was primarily looking for something that would play MP3s on a SD card or USB thumb drive. Unfortunately, the "name brand" offerings were not at all what I was looking for, at least at a reasonable price.
Summary: I was very excited for this stereo to arrive at my doorstep. I was especially interested in the MP3 and USB/SD card function capability. However, once I had plugged it in and tested out the radio first, I was uneasy. I rotated the tuning dial back and forth, made sure it was set to FM, had the antenna raised, but all that came though (with each full passing of the dial) was a very faint frequency noise. This made it impossible to adjust to any AM/FM station.
Summary: We liked this stereo--sound was good and it was easy to use, but less than six months after we got it, having used it only an hour or two per day and not EVERY day, it quit playing CDs out of the blue. It can't detect that there is a CD in there; you put a CD in and it says "READING" for a few seconds, and then, "NO DISK." Too bad. Also, the antenna broke off the day we got it, but I was able to unscrew the broken stub and screw in a new one. Unimpressive.
Summary: Purchased this item for use in a church classroom. It lasted less than 6 weeks before it would no longer play CD's. Had to go purchase one elsewhere when I needed it in a pinch. Won't buy another one. It was too late to return it so I guess I'll just eat it. threw away the shipping box. I didn't contact the seller since it was over 30 days and couldn't be sent back. Has great features if it would work.
Summary: Ok, if you are expecting audiophile quality out of a 40 - 50 dollar bomb box, someone needs to slap you upside the head with a 500.00 dollar Bose system. This is a great sounding boom box. No, it won't make the floor shake with awe inspiring bass, nor will it shatter glass with it's blistering high notes. It's a nice, middle of the road, boombox sound experience.
Summary: I bought this mainly to use for audio books on CD and/or on a USB thumb drive. Audio CDs are often one long 70 min.+ track. I have not been able to get any of my USB thumb drives to work with this. They do work, before and after, with my computer. I'm happy with how it plays CDs, and it's probably fine for playing music CDs, but... The player's version of a "fast forward" and "fast reverse" for a CD is painfully slow.
Summary: I bought this to replace a similar product, different brand, that I "wore out" from high level CD use and changes. I carry this around daily and use CDs to teach a lot of classes. The CD player works very well and gets a lot us use with changing CDs, pausing play, skipping tracks, and repeating songs. The controls are easy to operate. The AM/FM receiver does a fine job, too, even in a basement studio.
Summary: It's not a top of the line piece of equipment (price, people!), but for my needs is very good. It's been working 2 hours a night every night with no problems, and the USB/SD inputs are pretty nice to have. If you burn your own CD's (or thumbdrive/card) make sure they are recorded with high output, as the volume does not go very high otherwise.
