Summary: Ordered 2 of these and returned 2. The first would not activate for CD, SD card, or USB usage with the mode switch. I guess I could say the second was better in that the switch worked but unit still would not recognize commercial or homemade CDs. Worst experience ever with a consumer product.
CALIFONE1886 SPIRIT S D MULTIMEDIA CD PLAYER CASSETTE RECORDER AM/FM RADIO
Diane "Diane", Amazon
26 October 2013
Summary: I have had this player over a year and it has all the features I had been looking for in one handy to carry machine. It plays my MP3's, It records. It has AM and FM radio. So may players only have the FM feature. I like that it plays cassettes that I can use in my singing classes.
Summary: Hoping to play some burned CDs, I was immediately disappointed to find that this player did not work out. I had a similar Califone for school and thought this would be a good replacement but had to return it. To tell the truth I neither tried out the cassette player nor radio, because they were not as important to me. Adding to the disappointment was the price. Not a good buy.
Summary: I bought this exact make and model. Tuner not particularly strong, but its fine for at home/bedroom use. CD player stopped working afer about 8months.... but Califone replaced it no problem no charge under the warranty--- with a refurbished unit. The second one, I've had more than a year now.... After a couple months the controls stopped working... can't select a track or repeat... FF... nothing! It does still actually play the CDs though.
Summary: Great unit with one eventually fatal design flaw. The power adapter does not disconnect from the device. It is hardwired into the case. It is sure to break loose in time. I have never seen such a poor setup in a modern device. I plan to install a female receptacle in the unit with a male connector on the adapter wire when it fails. Not a recommended task for an unskilled individual.
Summary: I purchased this as a gift for my wife who is an "itinerant" exercise instructor, never knowing for sure what audio equipment she'll find at any particular location. I figured that a player that was designed for use by classroom teachers would be durable and work for her as well. I was impressed by the versatility of the device. it allows for input via am/fm radio, CD's, thumb drive, memory cards and any device (e.g. iPods) that can be USB connected.
