Conclusion: Frankly, there's not much here to make this worth an upgrade, and there's even less than the companion Jumanji anniversary release. The Chris Van Allsburg reading is a nice touch but hardly worth the upgrade cost. The rest of the content is nothing more than advertising for the Goosebumps movie.
Conclusion: Zathura may share with Jumanji the basic common threads of its storyline, but Director Jon Favreau's film is not only the superior of the two in terms of raw craftsmanship and fun factor, it's also pretty much a perfect little kid-centric adventure film that's suitable for the whole family.
Conclusion: 'Zathura' isn't just 'Jumanji' for a newer crowd. It's a wholly unique, thoroughly entertaining and thoughtful film that understands the often tense dynamic that exists between brothers. Childhood is a competitive time, where brothers tend to vie for their parent's attention.
Summary: Its unwieldy title notwithstanding, "Zathura: A Space Adventure" is arguably the best adaptation of a Chris Van Allsburg book to date.
