X2: X-Men United (Blu-ray)

DVD Verdict
3 July 2011
  • Excerpt: X2 is a direct sequel to the first film, and it carries the themes and plotlines forward toward the definitive climax that occurs in X-Men: The Last Stand . But this film manages to avoid middle movie syndrome and tells a complete and satisfying story on its own.

X2: X-Men United

High-Def Digest
20 April 2009
  • Conclusion: For my money, 'X2: X-Men United' is the best of the 'X-Men' bunch. The series was really firing on all cylinders here, with an engaging storyline, just the right balance of characters and villains, and terrific production values and pacing. It's great pop entertainment. This Blu-ray is likewise, with top-tier video and audio, and tons of extras. This is a no-brainer -- 'X-Men' fans and casual viewers alike can pick this one up with confidence.

  • Conclusion: X2 is a great sequel to a stellar film. While it is well-paced, congruous with the style and themes of the first, and builds upon the lore of the franchise, it doesn't quite match the level of excellence of the first, but it doesn't miss the mark by all that much, either. X2 is marked, once again, by standout performances by Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart, each of whom play incredibly well one off the other and fit their characters nicely.

X2: X-Men United

Cinema Blend
2 May 2003
  • Excerpt: My midnight showing of X2 (a must for X-Men faithful) has left me sleep deprived, slovenly dressed, and supremely satisfied. So satisfied that when my head finally did reach a pillow at three a.m., I found myself laying awake thinking about ways to see it all over again. The big time sequel to 2000's Bryan Singer super hero epic X-Men , X2: X-Men United , surpasses the already good original in every possible way, except perhaps in the hastily tacked on "United" title...
