World War Z

  • Excerpt: The scars of a tumultuous production are on full display in World War Z , Marc Forster's utterly innocuous adaptation of Max Brooks's zombie-apocalypse bestseller, but the seemingly endless rewrites and reshoots hardly explain or excuse the overt and largely unconvincing heroic image given to the film's star, producer, and longtime champion, Brad Pitt. The actor-humanitarian plays Gerry Lane, a former high-ranking U.N.

  • Excerpt: That's probably not a sentiment being shared by Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt), who is more than likely wishing the whole thing was over with as quickly as possible. And by whole thing we are of course talking about the zombie apocalypse.

  • Conclusion: Praise to the film gods, World War Z somehow made it to the screen in one piece, and it's a pretty entertaining movie to boot. The troubled production saw the film's entire third act get scrapped for a more intimate story arc in Wales, but lead Brad Pitt helps viewers suspend some disbelief over the story's narrative hiccups. World War Z strays from the structure of Max Brooks' source novel but is still a suspenseful, entertaining ride from start to finish.

  • Conclusion: In spite of several problems and delays to the production, Marc Forster and his team manage to deliver good blockbuster entertainment with a decent level of smarts. Starring Brad Pitt as a U.N. investigator hunting for "patient zero" at the height of a worldwide zombie-like pandemic, the film offers some stunning visuals, riveting action, and a few surprisingly suspenseful moments.

World War Z (Blu-ray Review)

  • Conclusion: Although the Internet has been buzzing as of late with Brad Pitt and talks of all the unused ideas for for a proposed trilogy of films, all that really matters to me at the end of the day is how I feel about this film.  In my honest opinion, World War Z , as stated before, wraps up nicely and feels very much like a stand alone movie.  Sure there’s room for expansion.

  • Conclusion: World War Z is better on a second viewing than a first, but it still inspires more like than love with its realistic, unconventional vision of a zombie apocalypse. Before zombies were everywhere, a decent effort like this may have really struck a chord, but today, it feels like a few ideas (or characters) short of fully satisfying and reaching Brad Pitt's usual high standards.

World War Z Blu-ray Review

  • Summary: There may be nothing bigger in the broad entertainment field right now than zombies. Superhero movies and digital kids' fare still reign supreme at the box office, but combine the world of film, television, literature, video games, and comics and it would be hard to find anything has so captured the public's imagination than a fictional scenario in which the dead reanimate and feast on the living. But why?

World War Z 3D Blu-ray Review

DoBlu
10 September 2013
  • Excerpt: World War Z’s strength is the unremarkable. Gerry Lane’s (Brad Pitt) nominal, uninteresting family dynamic sprawls through an outbreak of untouched viral infection, turning the world’s populace into unnaturally nimble undead. The Lanes are standouts only for Gerry’s UN employment capacity, retired as the plot developing zombie horde lashes out.

  • Excerpt: You know, I think if zombies were actually real (they’re not), then I wouldn’t really like to be one.  Do you ever see a zombie having a good time in movies?  No.  They’re either mindlessly walking around in a circle or walking/running and hoping for that one bite of human flesh that will temporarily appease their inhumane hunger.
