Underworld: Awakening

BluRay Authority
18 October 2013
  • Excerpt: Looking back, it’s somewhat difficult to believe (or realize) that it’s now been a decade since the first Underworld movie. Yes, I’ll be the first to admit that the past decade we’ve seen our share of vampires and werewolves, though I’ve always enjoyed this series of movies. Or maybe I enjoy Kate Beckinsale? Regardless, she’s in three of the four movies (so far) and after taking a break, she’s back in her full body spandex and black corset.

Underworld: Awakening Review

DoBlu
10 May 2012
  • Excerpt: Underworld: Awakening is the child of the franchise in that it’s jumping up and down while screaming for attention. It’s immediate, the prologue bringing non-followers into the fold and the gunshots begin to fire. Here’s the thing: the prologue is leagues ahead of the full narrative on the interesting scale. Awakening begins after the “purge,” wherein vampires and werewolves were outed to the humans and systematically eliminated. Why is that not this movie?

Underworld: Awakening Blu-ray Review

BigPictureBigSound
7 May 2012
  • Excerpt: The Film With so many vampire movies, TV series and books someone should put a stake in it already. And the first series that should be cast into the sunlight has to be Underworld . After a promising first film, lackluster sequel and needless prequel, the story - which could've been complete as a trilogy - continues with Underworld: Awakening .

Underworld: Awakening (Blu-ray Review)

  • Conclusion: So there you have it…another Blu-ray review under my belt and another demo/reference quality Blu-ray title to show off to friends and family.  With a story some love to hate and others that absolutely just can’t get enough of, Underworld: Awakening is a win-win in the audio and video departments and #4 on my list of the way I rank my liking of the four films in the franchise.  Can you guess which one I like best?  It’s not hard.

Underworld: Awakening Blu-ray Review

blu-ray.com
24 April 2012
  • Summary: One, two, Selene's coming for you. Three, four, better lock your door. Five, six, these movies are coming quick. Seven, eight, she kills Lycans great. Nine, ten, here comes Underworld again. Ah, the joys of movie franchises: repetitive, unimaginative, and lucrative. They come rapidly and with no remorse, sometimes with no purpose and no reasonable expectations for anything other than more of the same.

Underworld: Awakening

Cinema Blend
20 January 2012
  • Excerpt: Action films are often judged based on their third acts. We’ve come to expect blood, precision and grandiosity, and most are smart enough to deliver. The problem with the bad ones, more often than not, is that they don’t do quite enough to keep us invested before the proverbial castles are stormed. Underworld: Awakening isn’t a great movie by any measure.

Underworld: Awakening

AV Club
20 January 2012
  • Excerpt: This is the visual aesthetic of Underworld: Awakening , the fourth movie in the vampires-versus-werewolves action franchise: A well-appointed operating theater in a lavishly funded lab is lit entirely with flickering fluorescent lights, such that everything looks dim, murky, and blue-black. It’s the exact same lighting scheme seen in a devastated parking garage after a huge battle later in the film, or for that matter, as the world outdoors, save for the flickering.

Underworld: Awakening 3D

Flicks
28 October 2012
  • Summary: The first Underworld merged edgy fantasy action with the dramatic dullness of a Spanish soap opera while the second was overstuffed with those same drab story elements. The third instalment, Rise of the Lycans , provided a somewhat entertaining yet shallow back story. More With Awakening , they hand the filmmaker’s whip over to Swedish directors Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein, who seem to care less about expanding the Underworld universe and more about seeing vampires and...
