Beautifully Made Love Story of Epic Proportions

Pucifer, blu-ray.com
16 October 2013
  • Excerpt: A love story of epic proportions set against the backdrop of the First World War, this film also showcases the signature witty, creative visual style of director Jean-Pierre Jeunet. It's a breathtaking tightrope walk, balancing between harsh depictions of horrifying battle scenes, and the bittersweet pleasures and beauty of life back home. Also of note is that this film is especially well-cast, even in the supporting roles.

Beautiful experience

  • Excerpt: Un long dimanche de fiançailles (A Very Long Engagement) is one of those best movies ever made ! It has the beauty of a extraordinary painting and an strong emotional baggage of hope and deep love. Director Jean-Pierre Jeunet manages after his movies as City of Lost Children and Amelie to paint again a widescreen scenery that caresses your eyes. With an outstanding performance from Audrey Tautou as Mathilde.

Ashes to ashes

  • Excerpt: Most North Americans have either never heard of Audrey Tautou, or know her because she appeared in Amelie or The Da Vinci Code. The biggest hurdle is that the majority of her films are French, and I'm well aware that more than 90 percent of people can't stand subtitles. That's a shame, because Tautou is a fantastic actress. She's physically attractive, but her acting contains a depth of emotion that is even more beautiful. It's easy to root for her characters.

  • Excerpt: Awesome video and audio quality! And the English subtitles are excellent as well! If you love the Amelie, Micmacs, Delicatessen blu-rays, you might as well add this one to your collection also!
