The Vampire Diaries: The Complete Fourth Season

High-Def Digest
2 October 2013
  • Conclusion: By now, you know if you like 'Vampire Diaries' or not. This melodramatic vampire soap opera is hilariously overdone. There isn't one part of the show that you can actually take seriously. At times the series seems like it's poking fun at itself (which is admirable), and other times it feels like it takes itself deadly serious (which is irritating). The video and audio are comparable to seasons past. The fourth season of 'Vampire Diaries' is for fans only.

  • Excerpt: F air W arning ! Stop if you haven't finished watching season three quite yet. There are a bunch of different ways you could describe Elena Gilbert. Loyal. Determined. Courageous. Alive , and that's saying something considering the circles she runs in over in Mystic Falls. You'll [click on the thumbnail to enlarge] have to scratch that last one off your shortlist, though. As the third season of The Vampire Diaries came to a close, Elena died.

  • Conclusion: The Vampire Diaries is in something of a tailspin, unsure of how to pull out of its descent. The series still has its fans -- very vocal fans, I might add, who'd go to the grave (and beyond) defending the show on its dark-comicbook-meets-teen-soap-opera merits -- but once most people are hooked on a show, they'll put up with just about anything, wondering the whole time why their beloved series is drawing so much criticism.
