"Three Burials Of Melquiades Estrada" by Yojimbo
27 January 2012
Excerpt: A border patrolman shoots and kills the best friend of cowboy Tommy Lee Jones and when an indifferent police department refuses to get involved over the death of a "wetback", Jones decides to dole out some old fashioned frontier justice. TLJ's directorial debut is a modern day western that examines the inherent racism in the attitude of the US towards its immigrants and the friendships that transcend it.
Summary: This movie is great. I don't think of it as a western. Tommy Lee Jones is great as a director. Arriaga has a kick ass script. I love the payback/consequences. Everything is interwined so beautifully. I don't like January Jones as an actress. The guy who played her husband was a jerk but he was supposed to be. Happy birthday Tommy Lee Jones. It's my birthday today too.
Conclusion: Just when you think Tommy Lee Jones has kinda gone off the boil He comes back with No Country For Old Men, In The Valley of Elah and this cracking movie that he also directed. Three Burials is a Gripping movie about Friendship, Loyalty, Love, Revenge, Honour and Lonliness I was hooked from start to finish. Brilliantly acted by Tommy Lee Jones, Julio Cedillio and Barry Pepper.
Conclusion: The video is in 1080i! Such a shame because the movie itself is fantastic. Hopefully Optimum will correct their mistake in the near future and we'll get a proper 1080p release of this modern classic.
Conclusion: Three Burials is a modern western tale of revenge, retribution and redemption. It brims with new ideas and an off centre view of the world as Tommy Lee`s harsh, hard bitten, relentless avenger, tracks down the murderer of his best friend. jones`s face looks like a well worn rocky outcrop from monument valley. His measured direction allows the story and it`s characters to unfold and breath, giving a deep emotional depth to the movie.
Summary: I didn't choose to go to this movie and so was not sure what to expect. I really enjoyed it! I would describe it as black comedy western, which is unsually not my thing but this was an exception. Tommy-Lee and the border patrol man play off each other excellently. At moments you are not sure whether it is ok to laugh or whether you should be shocked! I would definetely recommend.
The landscape transversed is both geographical and emotional

Summary: This was a great surprise. A multi-layered story of death, retribution, loneliness, and remembrance. Pete's journey with the body of his friend will bring forward the stark contrast between the values of two ways of life, and the landscape transversed is both geographical and emotional. Highly recommended.
