Excerpt: I had no idea what the movie was about other then "an island", "SF" and it has Scarlett Johansson in it ! Well what could we more desire for . Though i was very surprised the movie isn't at all about some facility on a island ! So for everybody to make it more clear It is a SF that takes place in 2019. People are cloned in a facility and they think that they, at one day when one is selected by a lottery game, will be going to earth's paradise a place called "The Island".
Excerpt: I was really looking forward to seeing this one and wasn't disappointed. It has an interesting story with a ton of memorable scenes. I kept wondering during the film how huge the budget must have been. It didn't seem like any corners were cut. The special effects are awesome. The audio and video are solid. Extras wise, there are 3 brief docs along with the commentary.
Peter Benchley's The Island looks great on Blu-ray
20 December 2012
Excerpt: I usually agree with Martin Liebman’s reviews, but not this time. He is way too critical of The Island, 1980, an original and entertaining conclusion to Peter Benchley’s 1-2-3 box-office punch of the late 70’s which included Jaws, The Deep and this story of inbred, savage buccaneers hiding in modern society. The Island was a logical and inspired choice for Peter Benchley, but somehow has always fallen short of mass audience appeal, unlike his first two efforts.
Excerpt: The Island is a decent action movie. The premise is interesting, the lead performances by Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson are very good and the action scenes are big and exhilarating. The first half takes time to set up the story and the leads while the second half dumbs down to the all-out Bayham assault.
Excerpt: Ewan McGregor plays the inhabitant of a Big Brother style society who starts to question the status quo only to find that their lives are all based upon a lie. Harking back to the distopian concept sci-fi movies of the 70s, The Island is a very, very pretty film to look at (even when Scarlett Johansson isn't beautifying the screen with her presence).
