Excerpt: For the first 20 minutes or so of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus , Terry Gilliam's latest labor of love and chaos, I fought off the suspicion that I'd rather be watching a documentary about the film's blighted production.
Excerpt: There comes a point where visuals dominate a film. You marvel at what is happening on screen, regardless of its place in the story. The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus has these moments, numerous ones actually.
Excerpt: I'm not a huge fan of director Terry Gillium, but I enjoyed this much more than his other films. It could have something to do with Ledger's final performance, but I found the script engaging and entertaining, plus, the visuals are to die for.
Conclusion: 'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus' isn't the best Gilliam film ever made, but it's far from the worst. This film will be remembered more for the performances within, and the men and women involved, particularly Heath Ledger, but there is more to this film than what it is famous for.
