Excerpt: Will Kidman (Landon Liboiron) is a high school student whose mother recently died, father has basically shut down, and his school crush is unrequited. He wants to be able to let the beautiful girl of his dreams (Lindsey Shaw) know about his feelings, but is shy and can’t gather up enough courage. But when a mysterious woman (Ivana Milicevic) arrives and offers him some unexpected news, perhaps his courage will increase.
Conclusion: The Howling: Reborn isn't a perfect movie by any means, but it's a well made and respectable debut film and should earn a spot somewhere about halfway down -- or maybe a little higher -- the Werewolf movie canon all-time rankings. Despite a clichéd script, the movie yields solid characters, good acting, an edgy atmosphere, and quality direction.
Conclusion: 'The Howling Reborn' isn't going to win over any non-werewolf fans with its teen drama, lack of werewolves, and creative unoriginality. New films shot on HD have no excuse for being so lazy with the quality of their Blu-ray transfers. Although sharp and clean, the only thing consistent with its video quality is its inconsistency. And although it features a lossloss 5.1 mix, it doesn't sound any better than a DVD.
