Excerpt: The most notorious scene in Paul Feig's Bridesmaids involved the eponymous wedding-party members getting a nasty case of the runs at a most inopportune moment. Less fecally inclined, and penned by a different screenwriter, Feig's latest crafts its sure-to-be-talked-about gross-out set piece out of an impromptu tracheotomy performed at a Denny's.
Conclusion: I enjoy a good comedic genre flick. We're had plenty of them in this same buddy cop vein in the recent past - ' Hot Fuzz ,' ' The Other Guys ,' etc – and this one is slightly better than average. It's better than 'The Other Guys,' but nowhere near as great as 'Hot Fuzz.' 'The Heat's screenplay is far from great and/or original, but Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy bring the laughs through great chemistry.
Conclusion: A pleasant change of pace not only as far as cop movies go, but also for films that star Melissa McCarthy, The Heat has laughs from all involved. It is entertaining and worth overlooking some of the pains the story experiences. Technically, it is that and the proverbial bag of chips, and is loaded as far as extra material. Worth renting at least with an eye towards (gasp!) adding to your collection. What Do You Think?
Summary: Sandra Bullock both brought the house down and up to its feet into a standing ovation when she started off her acceptance speech for having won the Best Actress Academy Award for The Blind Side with her wonderfully self-deprecating query, "Did I really earn this, or did I just wear you all down?
Excerpt: It’s amazing how much you can tell about a movie just by looking at the poster, or in this case the cover to the Blu-Ray. Yes, I know in past reviews I’ve said that I was guilty of judging a book by its cover though it’s a hard habit to break. Plus, a lot is put into posters and the like – literally they can make or break a movie.
Excerpt: It's not easy for directors to develop a distinctive style in comedy, a genre that's almost always more about the dialogue and the actors than the camera that captures them. But Paul Feig may be joining his pal Judd Aaptow as a rare modern exception. Feig, creator of those lovable outsiders of Freaks and Geeks , has an unflagging soft spot for the underdog, but he's also never afraid to watch them lose, over and over again, before they achieve some small victory.
