  • Excerpt: Don Vito Corleone: You talk about vengeance. Is vengeance going to bring your son back to you? Or my boy to me?. the godfather to me is a bloody brilliant masterpiece of a film and people may say it is not they cup of tea and am okay with that but this movie changed the way that I thought of movies, the story is about a man called Don Vito Corleone who has this big family and big friends and all in the middle of all of that the family and friends don't know that he works...

Don’t ever take sides against the family

  • Excerpt: Although the movie is three hours long, it absorbs us so effectively it never has to hurry. There is something in the measured passage of time as Don Corleone hands over his reins of power that would have made a shorter, faster moving film unseemly. Even at this length, there are characters in relationships you can understand just by the way the characters look at each other and talk to each other.

  • Summary: No wonder this movie won the Academy Award for best picture in 1972 - it's great! And timeless, since even today the acting and storyline are topnotch. Obviously, since it's about the mafia, it is violent - viewer beware. But the violence seems very plausible and fits with the story. Each character is developed so well, even many of the "side" characters. Fun to watch Al Pacino and Robert Duvall at the beginning of their very successful careers.

My 100th Review: The Godfather

  • Excerpt: This is a special event for me, because this is my 100th review, so I thought: why not do something special this time and review the film that contributed to my early love for film, the official king of all movies? So here it is: my review for 'The Godfather'. Rarely does a movie influence something. Especially today. After all, it is just a movie. it would take a lot to change something in a person.

"The Godfather" by Yojimbo

Yojimbo, FilmCrave
8 April 2012
  • Excerpt: The son of a Mafia boss returns from the war and following an attempt on his father's life becomes more and more embroiled in the shadowy world of organised crime. Francis Ford Coppola's classic gangster saga is the story of a criminal dynasty headed by Marlon Brando in one of his most iconic roles. Coppola's direction is deceptively simple in that he uses no gimmicks or stylistic tricks; he merely allows the story to unfold and lets the superb cast do their thing.

  • Summary: The Godfather is a great film, no question about it. One of the few epic-ly long book adaptations that feels much like watching a novel. From the acting, writing and directing, you feel a real sense of immersion to this film. The only criticism I could fathom, would be the extremely slow pace and long running time. It didn't bother me much, but there were times when I did feel the length of the film. Though, this is easily forgiven by the wholly satisfying conclusion.
