Summary: first time i have seen a film directed by yimou zhang...it was recommended on radio 4 film programme.. what an utter delight visually... the brutality of the story seemed even more poignient because of the fragile beauty created by yimou... the horrors of this terrible event are heartbreaking, but the gorgeous and colourful beauty that is depicted through the eyes of a 12 year old girl are stunning..
Summary: Gritty story set during the Nanking Massacre, also known as the Rape of Nanking, committed by the Japanese at the end of 1937. By focusing on a small number of individuals - Chinese schoolgirls and prostitutes - the movie deftly manages to impart some of the horror of the event. It is quite graphic and a tough watch at times so you need to be in the right frame of mind when you sit down for it. Worthwhile.
Summary: sad but true nature of man, we are our own worst enemy, sadly these things happen all over the world during every war. its a pity we let our governments take us into war so we can kill each other. where is the love?
