Excerpt: Herrington High has a unique way of solving their budget deficit, turning all of their faculty into mindless alien drones who perform what is asked of them on a whim. That’s clever. Clever is also this script, even if it’s impossible to ignore that screeplay writer Kevin Williamson is trying his darndest to give the Scream concept another go.
Conclusion: The Faculty falls short of horror movie greatness, but it is enjoyable piece of entertainment that clearly belongs to the genre's late-'90s youth movement that writer Kevin Williamson embodied. Though not too characteristic of Robert Rodriguez's work (probably because it is one of just two movies he directed without writing), he brings a competence to guide the largely unproven young cast through a fairly standard regiment of twists and deaths.
Summary: Aliens are taking over our school. Everyone's just a little weird in high school. Some more than others -- depending upon one's definition of "weird," of course -- but high school just seems like a breeding ground for all kinds, including but not limited to the " sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wasteoids, dweebies, dickheads ," and even a few "righteous dudes." Why not add in "aliens" to that mix?
